We’re running CentOS 6.4[1] + modern Ceph, VMs are managed by CloudStack. We use distro packages whenever possible - most times folks suggest building something from source, I have to be dragged kicking and screaming to agreement.
Ceph support is one of the very few exceptions. We build/package/sign modern kernels (3.6.11), modern libvirt (0.9.13), modern qemu (1.2.0) and probably a few other bits. The improved functionality is easily worth the effort.

1:Due to RH Cloud agreements we’ll have to run RHEL hypervisors soon, will be happy to share thoughts on getting Ceph working with that once we do it
