There are users that have/are running HBase on top of Ceph. The setup should be no different than the standard HBase setup instructions, with the exception that when configuring the Hadoop file system, you specify CephFS instead (typically in core-site.xml).

Currently the documentation for running Hadoop that you referenced lacks a much needed tutorial section. Fortunately, there are numerous posts about running Hadoop on Ceph in the ceph-devel and ceph-users mailing list. I’d check out the archives for references.

Please let us know if you have any specific problems getting Hadoop running on top of Ceph. I’ll start working towards getting a tutorial made, but it might be a while before that is finished.
