Actually, last time I had this discussion Sage pointed out that it's
simpler to do:
"ceph mds fail <mdsname>" (if it's still running)
"ceph mds rmfailed <mdsid>"

So it's likely to be:
"ceph mds fail a"
"ceph mds rmfailed 0"

Hurray, less confusion all around! :)
