Vain — the problem is that the OSDs (and, if the daemon is still
alive, the clients and MDSes) know what OSDMaps they've seen, and in
some cases other pieces of data, and they won't work if the OSDMap
version goes backwards, and if the version increases but diverges from
the history the OSDs saw you're liable to have all kinds of horrible
explosions.
