Yes, the learn cycles are yet another reason to not use RAID HBA’s for Ceph OSDs, at least those from *coughcough*vendor X*cough*. Advise against them in the book but neglected to mention this among the many reasons. Add in flaky connectors, a succession of utility and firmware bugs, the hassles of monitoring and replacing BBUs / supercaps, and hardware flaws preventing cache flushes to drives. Just isn’t worth it. $ are better spent using SSDs instead of spinners. It’s more cost effective in the long run.
