Hi, 1. in the cases where client caching is useful, AFS disk caching is still common--though yes, giant memory caches became more common over time, and 2. a memory fs-cache backend is probably out there (I wonder if you can write it in kernel mode), at worst, it looks like you can use cachefilesd on tempfs?
