The original poster's question was referring to RHEL 6b2, not RHEL/Cent 5.5 which still uses /etc/modprobe.conf that you are used to. It must have been created by the system... because I didn't create it. Nor have I made any changes to it... ever. Moreover, the Access, Modify, and Change timestamps all correspond to the last time the system was booted. According to "man modprobe.conf": There is a generate_modprobe.conf program which should do a reasonable job of generating modprobe.conf from your current (2.4 or 2.2) modules setup. This program, however, isn't present on my system.
