This works for me

  PerlModule Authen::Simple::Apache

  PerlModule Authen::Simple::ActiveDirectory
  PerlSetVar AuthenSimpleActiveDirectory_host "mydc.inside.net"
  PerlSetVar AuthenSimpleActiveDirectory_principal "mydomain"

  <Directory /var/www/whatever >
    PerlAuthenHandler Authen::Simple::ActiveDirectory

    AuthType Basic
    AuthName  "Sekret Playce"
    require valid-user

  </Directory>
