We're migrating from Joomla to Drupal at the moment

Drupal learning curve is rather steep. It has another terminology andanother way of coding.
If you write your pages correctly and have a sufficient memcache, thenperformance can be very good ideed.
Community is very active, and bug/security fixes timely.
Appearance is all about theming - your site can look exactly the same, whether it's Joomla or Drupal or Typo3.
Drual and Typo3 are very good professional CMS's, but they're notintended for the casual user without programmers and sysadmins.
