I, personally, haven't had any issues with GoDaddy.  I ignore their 
upsells.. it isn't often that I have to bother going through that as I 
renew or buy domains once or twice a year.. I renew most of mine at 
once.  But, if you really want to stay away, try Gandi - www.gandi.net
