Depends a lot on what you need - basically, any linux distro that can boot the machine should be ok, just get the SDK fron sony ( as of late last year, the SCEI guys were mostly recommending fedora ) having said that, I have - when time permits - been pushing a small centos-5 set of packages to work with ps3.
