If you just want to peruse the rpm from the inside, use 'mc' (Midnight Commander) and it works like a charm. I don't know if it will uncompress them to the directory, as I've never had a need to do that, but check it out. Use F3 to look inside files you see listed. F3 again to back out. F10 quits.
