USB printer stops working?

I have recently attached a USB to my centos 5.1 NAS server.

The printer works for about 5 minutes after the box has started but after that it stops working. CUPS says the device is busy. If I print stuff, reboot the server and go into cups it mentions an error about HAL failing, i click start printer anyway and all the documents I have printed will be printed.

Someone mentioned it might be USB power saving, if this is the case how do i turn it off?
