I think PCI-X in a 133Mhz slot would be just as fast as PCI-E 1x.
It is more dependent on how many and what type of slots your server has.
remember PCI_X is 64bit wide, so even at 100Mhz, its 6x faster (2x wide, 3x clock speed) than desktop PCI.... I think pci-e 1x is only about twice as fast as desktop PCI (250MB/sec vs 133MB/sec burst rate). PCI-X 100Mhz is ~800MB/sec

of course, a gigE interface only needs 200MB/sec sustained
