My thoughts: Uninstall the current version using yum, grab the source tgz for the version for the version you want from samba, and compile it using --prefix=/usr/local/mysamba to put all of that ver in that directory. Then when you want to use the latest again delete the mysamba dir and install the new ver with yum.
