Form my point of view (FMPOV) is placing everithing to /usr/bin bad too
over there FMPOV everithing what is not core system should by in
/usr/local/bin or bigger packages in /opt

/usr/local is for the local administrator, not for packages. Stuff like backup scripts and stuff built outside of packages. /opt is for 3rd party vendors, so it seems a reasonable place to put 3rd party repo stuff.
