Many desktop boards are designed for Windows, and linux isn't quite up to
speed on them. You usually need to run Cutting edge distros like Fedora on
desktop boards to get the most out of them.



find my previous message on this. he's got a board/chipset that doesn't remap the 'missing' 800MB... even in 64-bit mode (assuming he had a EM64T P4 in there, I'm not sure that board supports them) he'd only see ~ 3.1GB ram.
