Is this an issue for Centos 4.4 and/or Centos 5?

On centos4:
grep -i pty /boot/config-2.6-9-* returns
# CONFIG_LEGACY_PTYS is not set

So I'd guess this would infact be a problem on c4. You can check for
yourself on c5.
