Have you checked your power supply fan? I had a problem with my computer
here @ work shutting of randomly. It was a bad power supply fan.
Eventually, the computer would shut off after being on only a few
minutes. One day after repeatedly turning it on again, I got the smell
of burning electronics... The rest of the computer was fine, but the
power supply was toast. 

If the power supply over heats, I imagine that could affect the output,
which may slow down your CPU...
