It installed okay, just the drives were really slow.

I may have found another solution to this though.

I was working with another VIA board this week and the solution was to
set the SATA to legacy IDE in the bios (if possible) and then pass
"all-generic-ide" to the kernel which allowed me to detect the drives
properly.
