Hi, From the release notes i can read : "Note that the minimum RAM required to install Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.92 has been raised to 1GB; the recommended RAM is 2GB. If a machine has less than 1GB RAM, the installation process may hang." Is it a joke/mistake ? :-O 1GB !!!
Actually no. I have run into several cases of doing large installs or adding extra repositories during the installation where the installer will just hang if you do not have 1 GB of ram. These are issues that I think will be fixed upstream for 5.1/5.2 timeframe. What I have found so far: Text Install: 256 MB of ram will work. 128MB will not. Graphic Install: 256MB of ram will install minimal system. As you add more packages to the mix, you will need to increase the memory of the minimal system. -- Stephen J Smoogen. -- CSIRT/Linux System Administrator How far that little candle throws his beams!
