General Electric Comprehensive Operating System
It is my understanding that it is currently used in linux to refer to the 
proper name field in the /etc/passwd file.

Is that close?

I cheated, however, I didn't use wikipedia or the man page. So I /am/ 
following the rules set forth ;)
