The driver in CentOS 4.3 didn't recognize the NICs at all, and the one in 4.4 worked enough to install 'em but would intermittently decide to stop passing traffic (on eth1, at least). Installing the latest driver from intel.com (7.3.20) fixed 'em up.
Same thing here using Xeon 5130s and the 80003ES2LAN adapters. Nearly lost some hair over that one.
