I am runnig sendmail 8.12.8. I am getting the below error.

How is it configured? Can sendmail read your certificates? Is there a
problem with your ssl cert? (expired, damaged, other)

Why is that? How can I avoid it?

No clue. I haven't seen your configs, and I haven't looked at RH9
since centos3 was released.
