[CentOS] Ownership of /dev/snd/*

I have several users using a machine running CentOS 4.4.  For some reason, the ownership of /dev/snd/* seem to get left with a user when he has logged out (me at the moment) which means that no one else can use sound.  Can anyone suggest why this might be happening, or give some pointers?
