AFAIK there are two solutions:
* install the yum-downloadonly plugin (I think centos.karan.org has it)
* (quick'n dirty fix) hit ctrl-c when it has started downloading, this will 
make it 1) try another mirror, and 2) stop after downloading

..obviously I'll just sit back and drink my coffe if yum eats your children or 
makes your root-fs emulate /dev/random ;-), but both ways have worked for me 
in the past.
