Pass "psmouse.proto=exps" to the kernel. If that doesn't work then try
imps, then raw.

Tried each of the 3 parameters. No change in behavior.
psmouse.proto=exps
psmouse.proto=imps
psmouse.proto=raw
I put these entries at the end of the kernel line in grub.conf
I rebooted the system after each substitution and tested.
