You might want to try and build a CentOS 4.3beta kernel and see if
that fixes the problem.

The SRPM is at:

http://beta.centos.org/centos/4.3beta/os/SRPMS/kernel-2.6.9-27.EL.src.rpm

No idea if it will help or not.
