And it your SMB machine is a W2K3, try 
mount -t cifs //SERVER-NAME/share_name /mnt/windows-share -o
"username=VALID_WINDOWS_ACCOUNT,password=PASSWORD_FOR_VALID_ACCOUNT"

It should work better with new W2k3 AD Security
