The 3rd party repos that are the best at not doing that are: RPMforge centos.karan.org Even with these, I would recommend that you install the application first via yum ... make a note of the packages that get installed ... and in the repo section of the .repo file for that repo, add a line: includepkgs=package1 package2 That will allow only those packages to be considered from those repos ...
