I tried doing dnf reinstall vbox stuff, again, no reported problems,
but I get the same result.
Sigh,
I was being brain dead again. I was trying to launch it from my remote
(ssh) terminal. If I walk over to the actual machine console, it
launches just fine. My apologies for the noise.
