Is the numlock light on the keyboard on or off?

Run "xev" from a terminal, put the mouse cursor over its window, and press keys on the number pad.  Watch its output in the terminal.  What key does it indicate?  This is the number 0 key-down event:

KeyPress event, serial 34, synthetic NO, window 0x2e00001,
    root 0x2ac, subw 0x0, time 86098050, (193,439), root:(281,593),
    state 0x0, keycode 19 (keysym 0x30, 0), same_screen YES,
    XLookupString gives 1 bytes: (30) "0"
    XmbLookupString gives 1 bytes: (30) "0"
    XFilterEvent returns: False
