There is a java-1.7.0-openjdk-devel or java-1.7.0-openjdk-devel, but no
java-devel

True, but then how does "yum install java-devel" know what to install without a package by that name? I thought that the "yum install" command took package (or group) names.

And sorry about the error in my rpm command; I meant it without the "yum" in front of it. David
