Try reinstalling vmware-tools
yea, any time you installed a new kernel on el5, you had to reinstall
vmware tools, kind of a pain. on newer systems, this seems less
neccessary.
Perhaps this is related to the vmxnet3 hardware/drivers in EL5. We had
problems (loss of some packets) using vmxnet in EL6 VMs on ESXi 6.0
hypervisor and had to switch our VMs to the e1000 NIC hardware type in
ESXi. This resolved our issues.
