That is weird behavior.  I'd suggest using the forums over at
http://www.mozillazine.org as they may know better about the updater
service on Linux and whether it should work in theory.

If you figure out that it should work in theory, then we could try to
figure out why it isn't working in CentOS (and/or on your box).
