I also vaguely recall recently seeing a posting that the reason for it not being available for Gnome is that Gnome already has compositing stuff built in. But I could be wrong about thatl. Fred I noticed that too. When I installed centos 7 the second time, I noticed a kde desktop and a gnome desktop in the offering.
