why are you installing a completely unpatched release from 8 years ago? The updated/patched release of CentOS 5 is 5.11.
also, EL 5 has a very short remaining life, its already off 'full support' as of Q1 2014, and in 'maintenance updates only', which will only last 2 more years (Q1 2017). Any new install now really should be CentOS 6 or 7.
The RT8111 family of adapters are very common, I'd expect them to work with said updated release.
