Yes, I understand that.  However, when one installs a 'Gnome Desktop' one in
fact gets a GUI that runs on that system.  When one installs "KDE Plasma
whatever' one does not.  If one does 'yum grouplist' on CentOS-7 there is no
'KDE Desktop' displayed as there is for CentOS-6.

Yes, I have already discovered that if one installs Gnome first then the other
desktops begin to work as well.  I just cannot seem to get either alternative
to run if Gnome is not installed before the others.  And the semantics here
are that if I install KDE or Mate first and then install Gnome neither KDE nor
Mate can be started from the command line as I wish to.

I am scratching the CentOS-7 system and starting again with a minimal install.
