Looks like something broke between the 4.0.1.15-2.el7 package and the
current x2goserver-4.0.1.18-1.el7.x86_64.   I found a box with the
older package that still worked, upgraded just x2goserver and now it
fails too.

Phew. I was afraid it was a problem on my end. So many people have been telling me to "read the manual", or "use this" or "use that". Thanks for confirming my observation.
