And you're certain the drive is healthy?

If it was my system, I'd swap in a spare drive and resync the array.
Then take the "slow drive" and run tests against it on a testbed system.

Then again, if you put a spare in and it is also slow ... you could be
looking at a bad raid controller/backplane.
