This, however, should work:

(as root)

mount --bind /dev /mnt/sysimage/dev
mount --bind /proc /mnt/sysimage/proc
mount --bind /sys /mnt/sysimage/sys
chroot /mnt/sysimage
grub-install /dev/sda
