ethernet has no concept of authentication inherent in it.    are you 
talking about some sort of router/gateway that requires authentication?

typically, you'd use some sort of VPN for that.   this still wouldn't 
prevent peer to peer communications across the ethernet unless all 
servers on said network also required some form of encryption like ipsec.
