Have you taken a look at UNetBootin? I literally never have issues with that software, no matter what iso I throw at it.

I've done a bunch of usb driven installs so far with centos-6, i386 and
x86_64 and had zero issues just using dd to get the netinstall image
onto the usb and booting, installing.
