Recently I tried the same with a Win7 guest on Fedora 15 and it did not work either. Then I tried VirtualBox with the proprietary parts added and that worked fine. Have not looked into why it does not work with KVM. Will revisit that when I have more time. You need to make sure that your USB stick is not grabbed by the host system.
