As for scanning, this is one of the many things that everyone but RedHat
seems to be able to do correctly.  They seem to be unable to add three
words to the spec file.  Try adding libsane-hpaio and see if that fixes
it.  

Otherwise, in both cases, I'd recommend my own page on installing it
from source.   (NOT the install wizard they have, which is a complete
pain for several reasons.)
