You may want to reconsider.  I had been using dspam for about a year and 
sometime in the early 2004 the bloat really started to get out of hand 
and maintaining it on a production machine became untenable for me.  I 
switched to CRM114 (you can find it on sourceforge) and revelled in the 
simplicity of installation, ease of maintenance/upgrades and lack of 
bloat.  It seems to work at least as well as Dspam in my environment so 
you might want to give it a try before you start installing databases 
you don't want or need, etc.
