There are two sets of samba packages included with Centos 5.5; Look in the source repo.

samba-3.0.33-3.28.el5.src.rpm ( the default )

and

samba3x-3.3.8-0.51.el5.src.rpm

You have to remove the samba packages to install the samba3x packages

which are required to work with windoze 7 clients.
