note that example is suffering from some HTML formatting issues.  
Specifically, the lines like...

	su-$ORA_OWNER -c $ORA_HOME/bin/dbstart

should be

	su - $ORA_OWNER -c $ORA_HOME/bin/dbstart


(noting the spaces on either side of the first dash ...)
