Totem often seems to have problems, even in more up to date
distributions such as Fedora and Ubuntu.  

If that's the case, it's worth trying mplayer.  By the way, priorities
are explained on the CentOS wiki at

http://wiki.centos.org/PackageManagement/Yum/Priorities

if you're not familiar with using them.
