CentOS 3.5 is now the default version of CentOS 3.x for all
architectures.

Once all mirrors have synced users running yum update will automatically
be updated to version 3.5.

This is equivalent to Redhat Enterprise Linux Version 3 Update 5 with
some extra updates rolled in. The number of extra updates depend on the
architecture, with x86_64 being the latest produced and thus most up to
date.

The single CD server iso is still at release 3.4 and work is being
undertaken to produce the 3.5 version in the next several days.

Thanks go to Tru Hynh and Pasi Pirhonen for their work in producing this
release.

Lance

CentOS 4.1 x86_64 is now available on the mirrors. CentOS 4.1 is just a
re-spun ISO containing all updates through June, 10th 2005, (include all
those released in EL4 Update 1). If you already have CentOS 4.0,
downloading the new ISOs is not required to update to CentOS 4.1.

The ISOs can be downloaded via Bittorrent from this directory:

http://mirror.centos.org/centos/4.1/isos/x86_64/

(or your closest mirror)

You can upgrade CentOS 4.0 to 4.1 manually now by changing the
file /etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Base.repo file and replacing $releasever
with 4.1 on all the repos and running "yum upgrade".

If you don't want to manually edit anything now, in about 1 week
CentOS-4.1 x86_64 will automatically be made the default version and you
will be upgraded when you run yum any time after that.

Here are the CentOS-4.1 release notes detailing differences between
CentOS-4.1 and the publically available upstream sources:
http://mirror.centos.org/centos/4.1/os/x86_64/RELEASE-NOTES-en.html

--------------------------------------------------------

The below Release Notes are provided {and copyrighted} by Red Hat®,Inc.
The CentOS Project redistributes these original works (in their
unmodified form) as a reference for CentOS-4.1. CentOS-4.1 is built from
publicly available, open source SRPMs. The CentOS Project is not in any
way affiliated with the provider of the open source SRPMS.

Another announcement will be made when CentOS-4.1 becomes the default
version for all updates.

Hi,

The short version:
- no more custom kernel
- CD-version available too

Longer version:

The separate announcement for ia64 is due the fact that initial 4.0
version was distributed with customised kernel. That was done because i
had to fix the serial console installation on rx1600 box which was not
working on upstream vendor kernel.

Later upstream vendor has made patch for it too (much more elegant than
mine), so the custom kernel is not needed on any system i know of.

Frakly i do test only on rx1600/2600 as that is the hardware i do have.

Another change is that i made CD-images too this time, so if there
really is someone needing those, now those are available too.
It never was about 'those are hard to make'. I didn't think those would
be needed and leaving the CD-images out, saves few gigs space.

I am pleased to see that someone at least downloads the ia64 version
too. It's not mainstream as i386, but i386 is boring :)

The sources are available from mirrors and i hope there will be one
unified SRPMS DVD-image soon too.

Regards,

your ia64, s390 and s390x maintainer

CentOS 4.1 is now released for all the current CentOS 4 arches (i386,
x86_64, ia64). CentOS 4.1 has now been set to be the default version
for CentOS 4.

These changes are currently syncing the the Mirrors and it may take up
to 24 hours for some external public mirrors to get synced. The mirrors
at http://mirror.centos.org/ should be updated within a couple hours.

When all the syncs are complete, you will be upgraded automatically from
version 4.0 to version 4.1 they next time you run:

yum upgrade

Thanks to Pasi Pirhonen (blahee on IRC, ia64 maintainer) and Karanbir
Singh (z00dax on IRC, helped greatly with i386 and x86_64 arches) for
this release.
